Step one - registration process 

The registration process is very simple and usually takes up to 3 minutes. Check out this one-pager or watch the demo video. A quick overview of what to expect:

  1. Download the ZealiD app from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Register your phone
  3. Do a video selfie
  4. Capture your document
  5. Check your details and sign the agreement!

Step two - document signing

Frequently asked questions

How can I verify the signature?

You can validate a ZealiD signature with the European Commission's DSS Demonstration WebApp or in the signature panel in Adobe Acrobat.

 
How long is the signature valid?

A ZealiD signature is valid for a maximum of two years.

What will happen after my signature expires?

Yes. Documents you signed before your signature expired remain valid. You won't be able to sign new documents, though, so you'll need to register again to get a new signature.

Which identity documents can be used to register and obtain a ZealiD electronic signature?

ZealiD supports more than 150 identity documents, including passports, ID cards and residence permits. A document must meet certain technical requirements to be supported, so some documents may not be on the list even if they are valid in your country. See the full list of supported documents.

Where is NFC located on my document?

In most passports, the NFC chip is in the front cover, but some countries place it elsewhere. For example, American and Italian passports have the chip in the back cover. If the app can't read your passport from the front, try holding your phone against the back cover. On ID cards, the chip is built into the card itself.

What document formats does ZealiD support for signing?

You can upload and sign PDF files. ZealiD does not support PDFs that are password protected or contain attachments.

Can I print out an electronically signed document?

A printed copy of an electronically signed document is only a copy, so the electronic signature isn't valid on paper. Keep the signed file in its original electronic form. If you need physical proof that your signature is qualified and valid, upload the signed document to the DSS Demonstration WebApp, then download and print the Validation Report.
